Teofil MIHĂILESCU is a Romanian architect, photographer, artist and author. He is a graduate of Ion Mincu University of Architecture and Urban Planning (Bucharest) and a professor at Transilvania University (Brașov). He is a founding member of the Romanian Order of Architects (Braşov-Covasna-Harghita branch) and runs the Teofil Mihăilescu Architectural Office. His post-university experiences in the realm of architecture at J. Paul Getty Museum (USA), Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden) and Politecnico di Milano (Italy), his teaching experiences within Universita di Genova, Universita di Pisa (Italy), Oslo Metropolitan University (Norway), the architectural practice, the creative activity in photography, arts and music, the cultural explorations, completed with published books and albums, exhibitions and public lectures, converge on a complex professional path which comprises architecture, photography, arts, writing and music as anthropological means of exploring the world.
As far as I’m concerned, being an Architect means being a complete artist – Arhitectura Mater Artium. To all my professional official dimensions, I would add also my passion for exploration, for sports (cycling, fishing, kayaking, alpine skiing), and, last but not least, my devotion to my family. The way I extend my limits reflect the way I understand life as a ceaseless process, a Journey in which I am interested in the Road – Artium, not in a final destination. I judge nothing and no one, I respect everyone’s opinions, I don’t compete with anyone. I just cherish my Artium and I believe in it, joyful that I have whole worlds of whys for which to live.
